  Note: I have another guide for adjusting screensaver settings in Dapper without replacing gnome-screensaver. I prefer the method described in that guide to this one, but your mileage may vary. Problem: Dapper ships with gnome-screensaver instead of xscreensaver, which gives the user no option to set individual screensaver settings.

  Note: Details: In Dapper display power management functions were decoupled from the screensaver with the introduction of Gnome Power Manager. xscreensaver provides both functions, thus became partially redundant.   Note: for the problem: "smbmnt must be installed suid root for direct user mounts" type in a console to resolve this: $ sudo chmod u+s `which smbmnt` in order to be able to mount the shared directory , and: $ sudo chmod u+s `which smbumount` in order to be able to umount the shared directory.

  If after a system update you’ve discovered that streaming Flash is without sound - fear not. Dapper will at times drop the sound from Firefox & Flash, as always you need to search the forums before freaking out as someone has more than likely already experienced the problem and discovered a solution.
