- Mount samba shares with utf8 encoding using cifs - Ubuntu Forums
I was having the most difficult time in the world trying to figure out how to mount samba shares which were created on a Japanese windows 2000 server and transferred over to my replacement Ubuntu network file server. Nautilus mounted them fine, and displayed the correct folder and file names, but the files were not cashed which caused very slow response times, and I was having difficulty with my keyring among other things.

Note: It would appear cifs is the way to go for me: "On Windows 2k/XP/Server shares it is important to mount them as cifs. cifs can handle much more files in directories and interacts better with the Microsoft software." -http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Samba
- HOWTO: Quickly Open a Terminal From Nautilus - Ubuntu Forums
Seems like a handy script... Anyway, this is a quick method of dropping to a terminal from nautilus, which automatically changes directory to wherever you were browsing with nautilus. (For any local location - won`t work with ftp or other esoteric locations).

- Problem playing media off of samba share - Ubuntu Forums
I'm trying to connect to my file-server (Samba share) and play some media-files on it through Totem and Rythmbox. I can open and browse the share just fine in Nautilus (through gnome-vfs), but when I try to play a file directly off the server, Totem/Rythmbox just complains that it "Could not read resource". If I copy the file locally and play it, everything's fine and dandy.

- cifs mounted filesystem does not show files and directories
I have a Synology 106e (Firmware Version: 2.0.1 - 3.0368). I have created a share (data) on the Synolgy device. I mounted it on a Windows XP system and it works fine. I also tried to mount the share from two of my linux systems (Fedora Core 5 and 6), both with the same problem: It mounts the file system and I can read and write files to it but when I perform an ls (in a terminal) or use the graphic filemanager no files or directories are shown!
