- ReadyMade: How to Make [Almost] Everything: A Do-It-Yourself Primer (Hardcover)
A partly serious, partly humorous look at materials we usually discard, the work provides step-by-step instructions on how to transform paper, plastic, metal, wood, concrete and fabric into such unlikely (and undesirable) household items as a chopstick clock or a colander light sconce. Berger and Hawthorne (the editor-in-chief and publisher, respectively, of ReadyMade magazine). Each section begins with a history of the "raw" material, designed to make readers more aware of the environment and the uses of these materials. In addition to proposing new uses for Fed Ex boxes (a CD rack) and plastic detergent containers (an "ultraclean coatrack"), also offer how-to advice, both silly (how to write a love note) and useful (how to self-publish).

- The Justice Project - Refugee Policy Reform Campaign
The Justice Project was formed in 2004. Its first project was to campaign for refugee policy reform and to campaign for the restoration of human rights in Australia. Its members include Julian Burnside QC, the Right Honourable Malcolm Fraser, Associate Professor Robert Manne and Hugh Evans (Young Australian of the Year 2004). Following The Justice Project's campaign in the 2004 Federal election, we decided to continue our campaign against mandatory detention, but also, over 2005, to focus specifically on Victoria's decision to consider a Charter or Bill of Rights. We thoroughly support the initiative of the Australian Capital Territory in enacting a Human Rights Act, and welcome the new Victorian Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities. We believe

- The New Nuclear Danger: George W. Bush's Military-Industrial Complex: Books: Helen Caldicott - Amazon.com
Since September 11, it has become clear that the United States is headed for more military funding to fight the "war on terrorism." But as longtime antinuclear activist, author and pediatrician Caldicott (Nuclear Madness: What You Can Do) shows, this buildup is nothing new with the exception of the first President Bush, U.S. policy has generally favored military spending. But spending on nuclear weapons is ineffective in fighting terrorists holed up in caves, Caldicott contends. Using a medical model, she focuses on what she calls the "disease" before she launches into her "remedy." She is strongest focusing on the ties between the American nuclear arsenal and large corporations, which have only their own interests at heart a point that should resonate in t

- The Rights of Refugees under International Law by James C. Hathaway - Amazon.com
This book presents the first comprehensive analysis of the human rights of refugees as set by the UN Refugee Convention. In an era where States are increasingly challenging the logic of simply assimilating refugees to their own citizens, questions are now being raised about whether refugees should be allowed to enjoy freedom of movement, to work, to access public welfare programs, or to be reunited with family members. Doubts have been expressed about the propriety of exempting refugees from visa and other immigration rules, and whether there is a duty to admit refugees at all. Hathaway links the standards of the UN Refugee Convention to key norms of international human rights law, and applies his analysis to the world's most difficult protection challenges
