We were there to look at carpet and furniture, and lucckily the places we visited were amazing. First night was spent in Delhi, did not see much there except for smog a crazy drivers, then the next day we drove down to Agra, home of the beautiful Taj Mahal. I was not a bit surprised to learn that UNESCO made it a World Heritage Site, on the 17th of December, 1994. My destination was Dali, in the mid western region of Yunnan province. I flew to Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan, from Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, with Thai Airways, a 90 minute flight. Kunming is a big, modern city, with a population of over 5 million people. It is famous for it's all year round temperate climate, probably because it sits at an altitude of almost 1900 meters, and is known as the "Spring City". In March, last year I did the 2 day boat trip down the Mekong River, from Chiang Khong, in Thailand, to Luang Prabang in Laos. If you are one of the many people who travel between Thailand and Laos these days, this trip is well worth considering. I went up to Chiang Khong, about a 2 hour drive north of Chiang Rai, got a Laos visa sorted out, which was easy, then caught a boat across the Mekong to Huay Xai. I arranged a boat ticket at the guest house I stayed in, and the boat left at about 10.00 am the next morning. Be warned, the seats on the boats are not padded, so it pays to take something soft to sit on. Also, take enough water and snacks for a day, the boat I went on had a big esky up the front with ice, beer and soft drinks, but thats all. We arriv...

In April this year, 2007, I did a trip to Nepal to look for interesting products for our "Lanna Charm" website. After spending 10 days sightseeing and shopping around Kathmandu,and a few days trekking, I booked an overland trip to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. I had always wanted to do this trip, and I still rate it the best one I have done so far. Words cannot describe the scenery, and even the best photos don't do it justice. When I left Kathmandu I traveled by vehicle, (a 7 seater van), to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The only way to gain entry to Tibet was to be part of a tour group, and have the correct paperwork, (group visa). I don't usually travel on package tours, preferring to make my own arrangements, but this one was O.K. Our tour gu...

I just returned from a quick trip to India, looking at handwoven products for our "Lanna Charm" website, and one of the places we visited was Agra, home of the famous "Taj Mahal". Finally, I would get to see one of the eight wonders of the world. It is an amazing structure, many say the most beautiful marble creation on Earth. Built by Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, in memory of his Queen, Arjumand Bano Begum, who died in 1631 giving birth to her 14th child ! According to one of the marble plaques in the grounds, "it is variously admired as a materialised vision of loveliness, a dream of marble, a noble tribute to the grace of Indian womanhood, and a resplendent immortal teardrop on the cheek of time." I think that says it all....
