In this website, students explain how physical processes have shaped and affected landforms of plains, valleys, plateaus, hills, mountains, loess, and glaciers, the rock cycle of sedimentary rock, metamorphic rock, and igneous rock, and the processes of erosion, weathering, and plate tectonics. You can post your questions on our bulletin board, check out the glossary for new words, or try your luck at our interactive games!

- Interactives . The Rock Cycle . Introduction
"Discover rock secrets through these activities. Create a rock collection as you learn about the three main types of rock, find out how to tell thedifferent rock types apart, and see how rocks change from one type into nother!" I used the website listed above with my 6th grade science students as a review before a test. I liked it because the activities were fun to play, plus they reinforced exactly what we had studied in class. The kids seemed to enjoy playing the games as well. They were able to print out a final score on the quiz, so I was able to see how they did with the activity. Rec. by Theodora Megremis

- Volcanoes
The site on volcanoes has short video clips showing volcanoes. It can be used as a background building activity, pre-reading strategy and as a resource on volcanoes. I’ve used it as a pre-reading activity because it has short video clips of volcanoes erupting. The size of the video image is small. Rec. by Katrina Cook
This interactive exhibit, part of the Exhibits Collection, explores why volcanic eruptions occur. Activities in the exhibit invite visitors to melt rocks, locate famous volcanoes and play the role of a volcanologist. The exhibit also includes video clips and related Web sites of interest.
