Gartner Social Software Quadrant: Microsoft, IBM, Jive lead | 01.09.2011 | Gartner has kicked out another report covering the the who's who of social enterprise software. This year's Social Software in the Workplace Magic Quadrant revealed a very familiar pattern, as well as some surprising changes. As enterprises continue to invest in the consumerization of IT, buyers are reportedly being more influenced by the vendors' strength in adjacent markets. As a result, one particular area of Gartner's fabulous four (hint: the best of the best) is full of companies with more established software in other categories.

Gartner's magic hydrant | It gushes money. Gartner’s business model is genius. They gather information from vendors and users – for large fees from both – and then sell that information back to them for even more money. Bliss. They own a toll booth on the user/vendor information highway. And collect $1.3 billion a year from the traffic – over $300,000 per employee. Drool. But the best is the Magic Quadrant, Gartner’s money-spinning qualitative graphic. | Auch im Bereich ECM Enterprise Content Management ist der Gartner Quadrant sehr umstritten, allerdings auch kaum wegzudenken ...

Google Wave killed the ECM Star | George Parapadakis | IBM 26.11.2009 | For what it's worth… | “What’s this got to do with ECM?” you may ask… It has everything to do with ECM. If Google Wave succeeds as a corporate platform (and I see absolutely no reason why it wouldn’t), it will fundamentally change the ECM industry. Why? because the ECM industry, and Document Management before it, was invented as a workaround to compensate for NOT being able to do what Google Wave does.

The Moment of Truth, according to A.G. Lafley (former CEO of P&G), is the moment when a consumer walks up to a store shelf and find the products stocked. Mobile agency Momads realises that the first Moment of Truth is increasingly going mobile, owners are using their mobile phones to obtain information about products, compare features and get the best prices. With that in mind, Momads created a rich infographic visualising how mobile plays its part in the shopping process:

Marc Fresko - DLM Forum: A tightrope Balance Act - MoReq2010 - Developing something like MoReq2010 is a bit like crossing a chasm by tightrope – a circus high-wire. If you succeed in crossing the rope, you reach the end and everyone applauds. If you fall off – you fail – then you can be injured, perhaps fatally. And if you don’t know what you are doing, you can ‘freeze’ in the middle, unable to advance
or go back – then everyone laughs at you, stuck in the middle of an unfinished act.

- [EN] Merger and Acquisition Roundup: Who Changed the Game in 2010 | Fierce Content Management | 04.11.2010 | Ron Miller
It's clear to anyone that follows content management, that consolidation goes part and parcel with this business. In fact, Alan Pelz-Sharpe wrote about this in a recent Industry Voices post. Heck, there was an outrageous rumor last week that Oracle was interested in EMC. Rumors have also surfaced this year about about a possible Open Text-Autonomy merger. That would be the height of irony, wouldn't it? Two companies that make a living purchasing other companies joining together. But those are just rumors. This special report looks at actual mergers and acquisitions that went down this year. Maybe the biggest, and perhaps the most shocking came when Adobe bought Day Software. It was especially interesting given that Adobe already has a working relationshi...
