FRBRizing an E-Library : Migrating from Dublin Core to FRBR and MODS | Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado developed an open-source eCataloger Framework, based on Dublin Core metadata, on Google’s App Engine to manage and serve electronic resources to the library’s patrons. Pressed to find new solutions for failing manual workflows for serials and government document resource management, the eCataloger Framework was extended to FRBR to automate and enhance serials management and government documents receiving.

- [EN] The Inevitable Future of Content Management | Oscar Berg
We have "known" for decades that tv screens would eventually become flat enough to be wall-mounted just like a painting. I remember reading about flat-screen tvs in a magazine about future technologies when I was about 12 in the beginning of the 80s. The idea has probably been around ever since the television was first invented. It has always been a matter of time until we would have flat-screens tvs. For me it's kind of the same thing with content management (although not as many people are as interested in the future of content management as they are in the future of tv technology). In the future, content management will become like air, invisible to users. The content will be automatically managed. We won't have to spend any thoughts on how to manage ...

- [EN] What is a document? | Buckland | JASIS 1997
What is a document? | JASIS 1997 | Michael K. Buckland | UCLA Berkeley | Ordinarily the word "document" denotes a textual record. Increasingly sophisticated attempts to provide access to the rapidly growing quantity of available documents raised questions about which should be considered a "document". The answer is important for any definition of the scope of Information Science. Paul Otlet and others developed a functional view of "document" and discussed whether, for example, sculpture, museum objects, and live animals, could be considered "documents". Suzanne Briet equated "document" with organized physical evidence. These ideas appear to resemble notions of "material culture" in cultural anthropology and "object-as-sign" in semiotics. Others, especia...
