Prince George's County shut down nine nightclubs, which were called magnets for violent crime. County officials said homicides took place near three of the clubs during the past year. In a fourth case, they said, the victim had recently left a club. Assaults, shootings and carjackings were also linked to nightclubs. March 30, 2007

Johnson said that CMAST has developed a pilot program to bring together county agencies, municipal agencies and residents to attack problems, including crime, abandoned vehicles and structures and illegal dumps, within and near Capitol Heights. The program will be launched May 15, he said. He said that this program paves the way for other municipalities and communities in unincorporated areas of the county to joint forces with government agencies to solve local issues. April 2004

The Prince George's County Council on Tuesday passed a bill to limit the number of pawnshops in the county. The county has for some time had a law that limited the number of pawnshop licenses to 38, and there are only 31 shops. Under the bill, the county will now allow no more than 31 licenses, meaning no new shops can open. MArch 22, 2007
