- #DataJourn part 1: a new conversation (please re-tweet) | Journalism.co.uk Editors' Blog
Had it not been published at the end of the workday on a Friday, Journalism.co.uk would have made a bit more of a song-and-dance of this story, but as a result it instead it got reduced to a quick blog post. In short: OU academic Tony Hirst produced a rather lovely map, on the suggestion (taunt?) of the Guardian’s technology editor, Charles Arthur, and the result? A brand new politics story for the Guardian on MPs’ expenses.

- 10x10 / 100 Words and Pictures that Define the Time / by Jonathan J. Harris
10x10 ('ten by ten') is an interactive exploration of the words and pictures that define the time. Every hour, 10x10 collects the 100 words and pictures that matter most on a global scale, and presents them as a single image, taken to encapsulate that moment in time. By Jonathan J. I recently was able to get [my name].com, which I'm super happy about. When I was thinking about what I should put up there, I thought a great idea would be to aggregate / mashup all my various social networks into one digestible page. How can I accomplish this?

- Flickr boundaries, now free to play with » Blog » tomtaylor.co.uk
I finished off the little tool that I used to generate yesterday’s map of Homerton and its neighbours’ boundaries, sourced from Flickr’s shapefiles. It’s called, rather boringly, Boundaries, and it’s available for you to poke. It’s pretty simple. You throw in a place name and it’ll attempt to find that place’s neighbours, using Yahoo GeoPlanet. For each of those neighbours, it uses the WOE ID to fetch and render the polygon from shapefile that Flickr returns.
