- John Eliot's Genesis of 1655
In 1655, John Eliot (1604-1690) and Samuel Green printed the first book of the Old Testament, Genesis, and the first book of the New Testament, Matthew, as trial pieces for a complete Bible in the Natick dialect of the Massachusett language, which it was Eliot's ambition to produce. No copy of Matthew is known to survive and no copy of Genesis was known to have survived until it was "re-discovered" in 1937. By chance, the American scholar, Wilberforce Eames realised that a reference to Genesis in Algonquin in William Marsden's catalogue of his personal library did not refer to a

- Joshua Roll
One of the most magnificent surviving manuscripts of the Imperial Court School of Byzantium is the Joshua Roll now kept in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana in Rome. It was made in the 10th century, at the time of the so-called Macedonian Renaissance, and presents the Old Testament Book of Joshua in an illustrated cycle resembling a frieze, executed in grisaille painting. These illustrated book rolls could well have been derived from classical triumph columns whose artistic contents were rediscovered at the time when our manuscript was made. The Joshua Roll is generally thought to go back to Greco-Roman forms and painting. It was executed in two or three stages in the 10th century by artists of the Imperial School who worked in a team and conferred to

- Moralized Bible for Saint Louis
The sumptuous Bible made for Louis IX of France, who was canonized, has been known for centuries as "Biblia rica" (”rich Bible”) for its luxurious decoration. It was transferred to Toledo during the lifetime of the King (1226–1270) where for unknown reasons eight folios were taken out in the 16th century and rebound separately in leather. They have been in the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City since 1906. The faithful facsimile reproduction of these eight folios serves not only to conserve and protect a unique original, but also provides scholars and bibliophile amateurs access to this volume, especially those who are unable to see it in person in NYC.

- Oxford Apocalypse Bible
This Bible ranks among the most significant English manuscripts of the 13th century. Simply on the basis of the number of its miniatures, 97 in total, it achieves a high position among all other illuminated works of this period. The fine decoration and composition of the manuscript bespeak the strong personality and individuality of the artist, and the use of landscape as a new element of miniature design lends the illustrations a fascinating and strange liveliness. The 97 miniatures accompany the Latin text of the Revelation of Saint John, the mysterious last book of the New Testament. The glorious framed miniatures are more than just mere additions to the text, indeed they are of central importance. A turbulent history: The English king Edward I and his s

- Paupers' Bible - World Digital Library
Paupers' Bible Description This Biblia pauperum (Paupers' Bible) consists of a series of woodcuts depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments, which are combined with short explanatory texts printed with metal type. Central scenes from the life of Christ are juxtaposed with two corresponding scenes from the Old Testament accompanied by four prophets, thus dramatizing fulfillment of the Old Testament in the New. With its memorable images, the work might have served as an aid for the instruction of laymen or members of the lower clergy financially unable to purchase a complete Bible. The first edition of the Biblia pauperum to combine woodcuts with text printed with moveable type was produced in Bamberg in the printing workshop of Albrecht Pfister (circa
