Gearbox manufacturer ZF unveiled its latest 8-speed automatic gearbox at the recent Vienna Motor Symposium, a design that promises to reduce fuel consumption and at the same time transmit more power to the wheels than its current six-speed boxes. With the extra cogs on board, the new gearbox improves mileage rates by 6% over the second generation six-speed transmission popular with numerous makes including the likes of BMW and Aston Martin. Compared to a five-speed transmission, which is still widely used today, the consumption reduction amounts to almost 14%.

This is the new Aston Martin DBS, scooped by PistonHeads. Ignore the faux DBRS9 badging, this car is destined to take over the mantle of Aston range-topper from the Vanquish. The big coupe was spotted in a parking area close to an Autobahn in Germany where it had been undertaking some high speed testing before the model goes on sale in October of this year. Although the Vanquish line closes this summer, sources at Aston Martin are refusing to call the DBS a successor to the old flagship.

This may put an end to Mitsubishi Evo’s and Subaru WRX’s popularity in the rally world. Belgian Tuner Futureworld worked with Porsche to develop 10 Porsche 911 GT3 rally cars that will be taking part in the German Rally Championship. With a price tag of 125,000 Euro, the Porsche 911 GT3 rally car is powered by a 3.6 liter 6-cylinder engine that produces 381 horsepower. That is 95 more than the Evo and 81 more than the WRX.

German tuner Hamann has developed a new edition of its BMW Z4 M Coupe performance pack with its latest "Renn Taxi" version. Hamann is yet to release official specs for the new model but as these latest images reveal, Hamann has added a roll-cage and Recaro seats indicating that this model is better suited to the race track. The brake package has also been upgraded with perforated discs and larger calipers.

Last month we told you that three Ford GTs were being raced by Matech, and after its first test at Dijon, Ford's most premium super car looks to be ready to compete against the best Europe has to offer. The Matech Ford GT posted a time of 1'20.611, finishing .185 behind the overall fastest tester, the Ascari KZ1-R. Driver Christophe Bouchut tabbed the GT as "easy to drive" and called the car "well built".
