  XML Application Objects is a language neutral API for standards  compliant web applications development. Fundamentally it is a class  library with classes targeted to the Content Aggregation design pattern. Implementing this design pattern with the XAO classes constitues using XAO in framework mode (the XAO framwork). As such, the XAO framework is non-prescriptive - allowing/encouraging maximum flexibility within the broad confines of object oriented design. XAO for PHP is a 100% object  oriented PHP implementation of XAO.
