    Economic and Business Development Program (EBDP) assists Soros Foundations in their work to promote the restructuring of transitional economies. EBDP serves as a catalyst for economic development, playing a crucial role in several areas---particularly microfinance, small business development, targeted economic policy initiatives, retraining of unemployed and laid-off military personnel, and entrepreneurship education. Using local experts and resources, EBDP seeks to build and strengthen the local institutions that provide access to capital, promote legal reform, andprovide support services for micro- and small-business operations

  • Education Support Program
    The Education Support Program (ESP) and its network partners support education reform in countries in transition, combining best practice and policy to strengthen open society values. ESP works to facilitate change in education and national policy development. Support is focused in South Eastern Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and Mongolia.

  • EU Monitoring and Advocacy Program (EUMAP)
    The program monitors the development of selected human rights and rule of law issues in both the European Union and in its candidate and potential candidate countries. The program works with national experts and NGOs to compile reports that are designed to encourage broader participation in the process of articulating the EU's common democratic values as well as in ongoing monitoring of compliance with human rights standards throughout the union. Its focus is on access to education and employment for people with intellectual disabilities, and TV Across Europe: regulation, policy, and independence in 21 European countries

  • Local Government & Public Service Reform Initiative
    The Initiative promotes effective democratic government in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and Mongolia. It focuses on supporting local government and public administration reform and decentralization; improving the administration of public services; assisting in the formulation of public policy; and developing a comprehensive regional policy center. In cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), LGI provides technical assistance on designing decentralization reform strategies in Central Asia and has contributed to the redesign of local government legislation in Macedonia and Croatia
