A man shot at a Prince George's County nightclub early Saturday is in critical condition, police said. Police said the man was shot in the upper body just after 3 a.m. at the Classics nightclub on Allentown Road. Officers said they have made five arrests and seized four weapons in the case. Detectives said the shooting stemmed from an argument inside the club. Police were not sure if the shooting happened inside or out, but said the incident was on club property.

Representatives of D.C.’s go-go community went to Maryland to try to mediate—and offered some ideas for how to help: “Speakers offered suggestions such as requiring people in clubs who get in fights to attend peace training, copying the IDs of troublemakers, and establishing security standards.” What in the hell is “peace training”? These people seem to have made a profession out of it. I’m afraid we’ve finally gone too far.

On June 22, 2007, at approximately 2:04 a.m., police responded to the 5700 block of Crain Highway (Wyvill’s Tavern) for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim, 32-year-old Brian Keith Compolier of the 1100 block of Simsbury Court, Crofton, Maryland lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. June 22, 2007

The owners of J’s Sports Cafe in South Laurel this week was fined $10,000 and ordered not to have live entertainment by the Prince George’s County Board of License Commissioners. But to the disappointment of many nearby residents, the board did not suspend the club’s liquor license. The club has been closed since Feb. 8 for not having a valid use and occupancy permit.
