IxDA Discussion: Label left or right align field labels From the horse's mouth. When the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society's HCI Standards Committee(of which I am a member) was working on this issue, we agreed that itdepended on the task. If the user is likely to be scanning down lookingfor a specific field, left alignment can be helpful because it's easier tofind the fields. If the user is likely to be familiar with the form andentering data field by field, right alignment is helpful because it'seasier to recognize which label goes with the field of interest. Both ISO 9241-12 and HFES-200 say that labels should be right aligned ifthey are of widely varying lengths and that they may be left aligned ifthey are of similar length. Note the "should" and the "may".Personally, I almost always right align labels, in Public bookmarkswith -designgui
