The club racer-inspired 2008 Honda S2000 CR Prototype making its world debut at the New York International Auto Show introduces a higher level of track-worthy performance and style to the S2000 roadster, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. The S2000 CR will be available as an entirely new S2000 trim level when it goes on sale in the fall of 2007. The lighter, stiffer and more aggressive overall design is engineered to maximize the S2000's potential on a racetrack with the goal of substantially-improving track times, chassis balance and feel. The factory-tuned roadster provides highly-aggressive suspension settings, increased body and chassis rigidity, overall weight reduction and an aerodynamic body kit

The word "tuner" could easily be replaced by "designer" as the majority of the changes are visible from the exterior. Actually and despite great knowledge and excellence in motorsports, Mugen, for Honda street vehicles, focuses on aerodynamic modifications...what most of us would simply call: body kits!

During a recent press drive for the Euro-market Honda Civic Type R (which resulted in this month’s WR cover story), our European Editor, Matt Davis, caught some heavy hints that a variant of the Honda Civic Type R is indeed headed Stateside in 2010.

That didn’t take long. Honda introduced its Japanese-market Civic Type R sedan, and it only took mere minutes for Mugen Motorsports to trot out their own upgraded version. As seen here, the Mugen CTR gains a whole host of body modifications (front spoiler, grille, vented hood, rear wing and diffuser bumper cap), and it sports a range of bolt-ons, including a sports exhaust, air intake, and an uprated braking system (new rotors, lines, fluid, and pads), a sports suspension, and 18-inch gold-toned alloys.

Mugen wastes no time when it comes to offering accessories for new Honda models, and the debut of the Crossroad means that a full suite of tasty upgrades is available already. Those of you who find the Crossroad's Ford-esque grille off-putting take note: Mugen addresses the matter with a solid single-bar unit of its own. We like it.
