In a recent press release (2004) President Bush proposed the Striving Readers Initiative, a program for middle and high school students that complements the elementary Reading First program. What started out initially as a few wooden containers has evolved over the years into a garden oasis that has not only beautified our school, but has also become an important learning environment and wildlife habitat.
