Dean Potter punches a button on a plastic wristwatch looped around his climbing harness. His partner, Tim O'Neill, leaps at the rock before him, jamming freshly taped fingers into a slender crack. Above them soars the great granite parabola of the most famous big-wall route in Yosemite Valley—or, for that matter, the world: The Nose of El Capitan. At just under 3,000 vertical feet, with 36 pitches, The Nose requires three harrowing pendulum swings and the negotiation of a hair-raising crux section known as the Great Roof—an overhanging shelf 2,000 feet off the deck, with a crack at the back so narrow that neither the towering Potter nor the diminutive O'Neill can wedge his fingers into it.

Fascinating article on google's unconventional buisness practices. Google is different. And it's different not only because its thinking is original and its applications unique--witness search queries morphed into a lobby display of bursting color--but because the company's unconventional IT strategy makes it so. Commodity hardware and free software hardly seem like the seeds of an empire, yet Google has turned them into an unmatched distributed computing platform that supports its wildly popular search engine, plus a burgeoning number of applications. We used to call them consumer applications, but Google changed that. Businesses also use them because, well, Google is different.

Jarlsberg cheese is one of Norway’s greatest export successes in the world market. As early as in 1830 there was an active production of cheeses with holes in the Laurvig and Jarlsberg county in the South of Norway. In 1956 Professor Ole M. Ystgaard from the Agricultural University of Norway started to do research on these cheese recipes, recognising the value of this type of cheese. During his research he developed a semi-h

Barking Duck is our interpretation of the little known and very diverse Belgian Farmhouse beers, traditionally made by farmers to feed their workers during summer and harvest; nutritious, safe to drink (the water wasn’t) and refreshing. Made before hops became commonplace in beer so other spices were used as flavouring. It was a time before commercial breweries so each beer was unique to the family farm that produced it. Barking Duck, produced in very limited quantities, combines wheat, oats & barley, two yeasts, three hops and a blend of spices including cassia bark. We thought that since we were playing around with some different spices that we might as well get some spicy characters from an unconventional blend of hops.
