<description>More and more, states are requiring school districts to look at test scores according to race, poverty, and gender so schools will acknowledge and deal with differences in achievement. Educators may be sensitive to this requirement because schools often are caught in shifting or superficial political agendas. Yet individual schools can be inspiring examples of how looking at data and acting on it can contribute to reversing the academic effects of racism and poverty.</description>
