Ever since I discovered that most RF electronics have an RSSI (relative signal strength) pin on them I have been finding different ways to use it to my advantage. In this case I can use them to make a diversity system for a fraction of the cost of a conventional diversity controller. Sure this requires a little more work than simply buying a diversity controller, but my controller uses less power and also allows me to power my entire base station from a single battery. Even my video glasses and recorder can be powered straight from this controller! I even put a voltage monitor on it. Now more worrying about charging multiple batteries and worrying about any one going dead.

Developing a rich application for manipulating large amounts of data used to be the exclusive domain of desktop applications. Now it can be done in a web application, and you don't have to be a Java™Script guru to do it. Learn how to use the Dojo toolkit to create eye-popping, data-centric web applications and hook them up to a back end based on the JavaEE standards such as JAX-RS and JPA. These technologies allow you to leverage convention over configuration principles to easily wire together complex applications in no time at all.

The Java™ Persistence API (JPA) provides an easy mechanism to use with relational databases when you need applications to persist data. Although it is traditionally used with Enterprise Java™Beans (EJBs), JPA works quite well directly with Web applications. This article describes the simplified programming model and tools that IBM® Rational® Application Developer for WebSphere® Software Version 7.5 provides for easily building Web applications that use JPA.
