• Japanese Whaling Association
  The Japan Whaling Association (JWA) was established in December 1959 as a nonprofit foundation. After the moratorium on commercial whaling adopted by the IWC came into effect, JWA disbanded in July 1988, and re-formed in October 1988 as a private organization with the aim of resumption of whaling.

• The International Whaling Commission
  The International Whaling Commission (IWC) was set up under the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling which was signed in Washington DC on 2nd December 1946. The purpose of the Convention is to provide for the proper conservation of whale stocks and thus make possible the orderly development of the whaling industry.
